Dua for Safely Returning to Ihram After Breaking it (Umrah)

Hajj & Umrah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1184

Here I am, O Allah, here I am! Here I am, You have no partner, here I am! Indeed, all praise, grace, and dominion are Yours. You have no partner.

Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la shareeka laka Labbayk, innal hamda wa ni'mata laka wal mulk, la shareeka lak

When to Read

This is the core talbiyah recited when entering the state of Ihram for Hajj or Umrah. If a pilgrim unintentionally breaks their Ihram (e.g., due to illness or forgetting a restriction) and needs to re-enter the state of Ihram, they would typically re-initiate their talbiyah. This signifies their renewed intention and adherence to the sacred state, ensuring the validity of their pilgrimage. It's recited at the Miqat (boundary point for Ihram) and continues until they begin the Tawaf al-Umrah.

How to Read

Recite this with sincerity and a humble heart, focusing on the meaning of submission to Allah. It should be recited aloud, especially for men, and with clear pronunciation. The repetition signifies continuous remembrance and affirmation of one's commitment to the pilgrimage.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting the talbiyah is a fundamental pillar of entering the state of Ihram. It's a declaration of submission, acknowledging Allah's oneness, His dominion, and His unparalleled blessings. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When a Muslim says: 'Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk', his right side says: 'Labbayk', and his left side says: 'Labbayk'. When he says: 'Labbayk la shareeka laka Labbayk', his right side says: 'Labbayk la shareeka lak', and his left side says: 'Labbayk la shareeka lak'. When he says: 'Innal hamda wa ni'mata laka wal mulk, la shareeka lak', it is said that the seven heavens and all that is in them and below them rejoice with him.' (This meaning is conveyed through various narrations, though the exact wording about the heavens rejoicing might have specific chains). The essence is that every part of the creation acknowledges and echoes this declaration of servitude and praise.

Source & Authentication

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When a pilgrim says: 'Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk', his right side says: 'Labbayk', and his left side says: 'Labbayk'. When he says: 'Labbayk la shareeka laka Labbayk', his right side says: 'Labbayk la shareeka lak', and his left side says: 'Labbayk la shareeka lak'. When he says: 'Innal hamda wa ni'mata laka wal mulk, la shareeka lak', it is said that the seven heavens and all that is in them and below them rejoice with him.' (Reported by various scholars, with similar phrasing found in books like Sunan Ibn Majah 2927, with slight variations in wording but consistent meaning of the talbiyah's significance).
