Dua for Guidance on the Day of Eid al-Adha During Hajj

Hajj & Umrah
Hasan HadithThis is a composite dua inspired by various supplications for virtuous days, often recited during the last ten nights of Ramadan. Its principles are highly applicable to Hajj.

O Allah, guide me on this day to what is right in speech and action, guide me on this day to Your pleasure, and save me from Your wrath and Your punishment. Grant me the ability to recite Your verses through Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

Allahumma ihdini fihi li sadadil qawli wal amal, wahdini fihi ila mardhatika wa ajirni min sakhatika wa niqamik, wa fiqqni fihi li qira'ati ayatik bi rahmatika ya arhamar rahimin.

When to Read

This dua is particularly potent on the Day of Eid al-Adha while performing Hajj. It can be recited at any time during the day, especially after the Eid prayer, or during moments of quiet reflection at the holy sites. The focus on guidance in speech and action, seeking pleasure, and reciting Quranic verses resonates deeply with the spiritual purpose of Hajj.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, envisioning yourself seeking Allah's direct guidance. Raise your hands if you are in a place conducive to it, as is the practice when making dua. Reflect on your actions and words, and ask Allah to align them with His will. This is a personal supplication, so ensure you are in a state of presence (hudur) with Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the essence of seeking Allah's guidance, which is paramount during Hajj, a journey of immense spiritual significance. By asking for guidance in speech and action, one seeks to embody the teachings of Islam in every aspect of life, aligning with the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Seeking Allah's pleasure ensures that our efforts are accepted. Reciting Quranic verses with mercy emphasizes the importance of understanding and reflecting upon Allah's word, a core aspect of spiritual growth. This prayer, especially on Eid al-Adha, a day of sacrifice and celebration, can help a pilgrim remain focused on the deeper spiritual meanings of the rituals, rather than mere outward performance.

Source & Authentication

While this specific phrasing is often found in supplications for Ramadan, the underlying themes are universal and highly relevant to Hajj. For instance, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught: 'The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of Arafah, and the best of what I and the Prophets before me said is: 'La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir' (There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and to Him belongs praise, and He is Omnipotent over all things).' (Tirmidhi 3585, Hasan). This hadith highlights the importance of sincere supplication during significant days of Hajj. Our composite dua further refines this seeking of guidance in a comprehensive manner.
