Dua for Embracing Unity and Equality at the Kaaba During Hajj and Umrah

Hajj & Umrah
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1479

O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being, take me into Your care among those You have taken into Your care, bestow Your blessings on me in what You have given, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. For You decree and are not decreed against, and none is humiliated whom You have befriended. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted.

When to Read

This profound supplication is particularly fitting as you stand before the Kaaba, ready to begin your rites of Hajj or Umrah. It's a moment when the vastness of Allah's creation and the diversity of His worshippers converge. Reciting this while circumambulating the Kaaba (Tawaf) or after praying near it emphasizes your supplication for divine guidance, health, protection, and blessings in the presence of immense spiritual significance, embodying the spirit of unity and seeking Allah's favour irrespective of background.

How to Read

Face the Kaaba, ideally from a place like Hateem or the area around it where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have supplicated. Raise your hands (if not performing Tawaf) or keep them clasped respectfully if performing Tawaf. Recite with sincerity and deep reflection, visualizing yourself as one among millions, all seeking Allah's mercy. Understand that this dua is a comprehensive request for holistic well-being and divine alignment, reflecting the spirit of equality before Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to his uncle Al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) to recite during his circumambulation, encapsulates a believer's deepest needs. It is a powerful request for Allah's guidance, encompassing all aspects of life. By asking for well-being ('afiyah), you seek protection from physical, mental, and spiritual ailments. The request for Allah's guardianship ('tawalli') signifies a desire for His constant support and protection. The blessing in what Allah bestows acknowledges His provision and asks for its enhancement. Finally, seeking refuge from evil demonstrates reliance on Allah and recognition of His supreme power. In the context of Hajj and Umrah, reciting this fosters a profound sense of humility, equality, and absolute dependence on Allah, mirroring the shared purpose of all pilgrims.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): Al-'Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have grown old, so make me do something I can recite during Tawaf." He said: "O Abbas, recite this supplication: 'O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being, take me into Your care among those You have taken into Your care, bestow Your blessings on me in what You have given, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. For You decree and are not decreed against, and none is humiliated whom You have befriended. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted.'" This supplication was also recommended by the Prophet (peace be upon him) to be recited between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, a place where many pilgrims make personal supplications.
