رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar
When to Read
This powerful dua is one the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite frequently, and it is especially fitting to remember during Hajj and Umrah. You can recite it at any point during your Tawaf (circumambulating the Ka'bah) or during your Sa'i (walking between the hills of Safa and Marwah), seeking Allah's acceptance of these pillars of your pilgrimage.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a hopeful heart. While there's no strict rule on where to position it during Tawaf or Sa'i, many find it meaningful to say it as they begin their Sa'i, or at the conclusion of their Tawaf, as they perform the farewell Tawaf (Tawaf al-Wada'). It’s a comprehensive supplication for well-being in both this life and the next, perfect for asking Allah to accept your efforts.
Virtues & Benefits
This verse is a foundational dua taught by Allah Himself. It encompasses the best of what a believer can ask for: goodness in this life (health, sustenance, good deeds, righteous family) and goodness in the Hereafter (Paradise, eternal bliss), while simultaneously seeking protection from the hellfire. Reciting it during Tawaf and Sa'i is a way of grounding your actions in seeking Allah's ultimate pleasure and mercy, hoping that your acts of worship are accepted and that you are granted the best of both worlds. The Prophet ﷺ himself would often make this dua.
