Dua at Muzdalifah: Seeking Allah's Mercy Under the Open Sky

Hajj & Umrah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1300

O Allah, I ask You in this night of mine for the best of what You have given to any of Your creation, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You have given to any of Your creation. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, and from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being struck from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'aluka fi lailati hadhihi min khairi ma a'taita ahadan min khalqik, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma a'taita ahadan min khalqik, Allahumma hfazni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi, wa 'an yaminee wa 'an shimalee, wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.

Source & Authentication

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the Day of 'Arafah, when the sun set, rode his camel and came to Muzdalifah. He prayed the Maghrib and Isha' prayers together with one Adhan and two Iqamahs. He then lay down until dawn. He led the morning prayer when it was dawn and the `Al-Musafirun` (travellers) had gathered, and he said: 'O people, We are now in Muzdalifah, and the halting is here. And the Day of 'Arafah, the Day of Nahr (sacrifice), the days of Mina and the days of the dwellings are all 'Id (festivals) for us, the people of Islam.' And he said: 'O Allah, You are my Helper against the enemy, and You are my Companion in the world and the Hereafter, O Allah, do not deprive me of Your bounty, do not make me forget Your remembrance, O Allah, I ask You in this night of mine of the best of what You give to anyone amongst Your creation, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You give to anyone amongst Your creation. O Allah, guard me from before me and from behind me, and from my right hand and from my left hand, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being undermined from beneath me.' And when he rode, he said: 'Rabb i anzilni munzilun mubarakan wa anta khairul munzilin (My Lord, cause me to descend a blessed descent, and You are the Best of those who cause descent).’
