The Prophet's ﷺ Dua of Gratitude for Nature's Bounty

Gratitude
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2739

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, and the change of Your protection, and the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik.

When to Read

This profound dua can be recited at any time, but it's particularly poignant when reflecting on the natural world around us. Imagine yourself walking through a lush garden, seeing the vibrant colors of flowers, hearing the birds sing, or feeling the gentle breeze. At such moments, this dua reminds us not to take these blessings for granted. It's also a powerful supplication to say when feeling overwhelmed by life's changes or when seeking protection from hardship, reminding us that even the most beautiful natural scenes are manifestations of Allah's grace that can be preserved through His mercy.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a deep sense of humility. Visualize Allah's blessings showering down upon you, from the smallest insect to the grandest mountain. When you say 'zawali ni'matik' (disappearance of Your blessings), feel a pang of concern for losing what Allah has given. When you say 'tahawwuli 'afiyatik' (change of Your protection), remember how vulnerable we are without His shield. For 'fuja'ati niqmatik' (suddenness of Your punishment), reflect on the gravity of straying from His path. Finally, as you utter 'jami'i sakhatik' (all of Your displeasure), aspire to live a life that earns His pleasure. It's not just about uttering the words, but about engaging your heart and mind with their meaning.
