Dua of Gratitude for the Gift of an Open Heart

Gratitude
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 737a

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provisions, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This is a powerful dua to recite after the obligatory prayers (Salat). It's especially relevant when you feel a surge of gratitude for Allah's blessings, particularly the inner peace and clarity that comes with a heart open to guidance and good deeds. Recite it when you've completed a prayer and are still in a state of reflection and closeness to Allah.

How to Read

As with all duas, sincerity and conviction are key. Raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us. Begin with praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ. Then, recite this dua with a sincere heart, truly desiring beneficial knowledge, pure sustenance, and deeds that will be accepted by our Creator. Focus on the meaning of each word: seeking knowledge that benefits both this life and the hereafter, provisions that are lawful and good, and deeds that are done with pure intention and accepted by Allah. This is a reflection of an open heart, which yearns for what is truly good in the sight of Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates three fundamental pillars of a life pleasing to Allah: beneficial knowledge, which guides our actions; good provisions, which sustain us without leading us astray; and accepted deeds, which are the ultimate goal of our worship and efforts. An open heart desires these things. When our hearts are open, we are more receptive to Allah's guidance, more driven to seek knowledge that benefits us, and more motivated to perform deeds that are pleasing to Him. This dua, therefore, is a way to thank Allah for granting us the capacity to seek and embody these qualities, which are signs of a heart that is alive and responsive to its Lord.
