Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua is a way to express gratitude for Allah's mercy, which is manifested in the life-giving rain. It acknowledges that rain is a blessing that sustains life, and asking for it to be 'beneficial' ensures that it brings good and not harm. It reminds us that even seemingly natural events are from Allah's command and are a test and a mercy. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Prophet (ﷺ) when the people said: "We are hungry." So he ordered us to spread out our cloaks. Then he ordered us to raise them. And we raised them and there was nothing on them. Then he ordered us to spread them out and we spread them out, and then he ordered us to raise them, and we raised them, and they were full of food. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I am His slave and His Messenger. And no slave says these words without Allah making the Fire forbidden for him." Then he said: "O Allah, let it be a beneficial downpour." (Sahih al-Bukhari 1032)
