Dua of Gratitude for Allah's Hidden Favors

Gratitude
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2739

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhadik

When to Read

This dua is a powerful supplication for safeguarding the blessings Allah has bestowed upon us. It's particularly fitting to recite when reflecting on Allah's countless favors, both the obvious and the hidden ones we often overlook. Make it a habit, perhaps after every prayer or at the beginning of your day, to seek Allah's protection over His gifts.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt conviction. Understand that true gratitude isn't just about acknowledging blessings, but also about actively seeking Allah's help to preserve them. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, recognizing our dependence on Allah for every good thing, and His power to withdraw them if we become ungrateful or fall into His displeasure.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication embodies profound gratitude by acknowledging that all blessings come from Allah and are subject to His will. By seeking refuge from the loss of these favors, we are, in essence, showing deep appreciation for what we have. It reminds us that our well-being and comfort are gifts from Allah, and that our ultimate aim should be to remain in His good pleasure. This recognition fosters humility and a constant reliance on Him, which are hallmarks of true servitude.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhadik" (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all Your displeasure).
