Dua for Gratitude: Cherishing the Blessings of Family

Gratitude
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3804

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ نِعْمَةٍ، وَأَسْأَلُهُ زِيَادَةً، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِنْ كُلِّ حَالٍ

All praise is for Allah for every blessing, and I ask Him for more. And all praise is for Allah in every state.

Al-hamdulillah 'ala kulli ni'mah, wa as'aluhu ziyadah, walhamdulillah min kulli haal

When to Read

This beautiful expression of gratitude can be recited at any time, but it's particularly meaningful after experiencing a moment of deep connection with your family, receiving comfort from them, or even just reflecting on their presence in your life. Make it a habit after every Salah, when you wake up, or before you sleep. Whenever you feel that warmth of familial love, let this dua be on your tongue.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of awareness of Allah's favors. Feel the weight of each word as you acknowledge His blessings upon your family and ask for their continuation. It's not just about the words, but the feeling of thankfulness that should accompany them. You can raise your hands slightly in supplication, especially when asking for more blessings.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the essence of gratitude. By consistently acknowledging Allah's blessings ('Al-hamdulillah 'ala kulli ni'mah'), we train our hearts to see the good, even in difficult times. Asking for increase ('wa as'aluhu ziyadah') shows our reliance on Him and our hope for continued favor. The final part, 'walhamdulillah min kulli haal' (and all praise is for Allah in every state), is a hallmark of true believers who find contentment and praise regardless of their circumstances, a profound strength that family can often help us find.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that Abdullah bin Ghannam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever wakes up in the morning saying: 'Alhamdulillah 'ala kulli ni'mah, wa as'aluhu ziyadah, walhamdulillah min kulli haal' (All praise is for Allah for every blessing, and I ask Him for more. And all praise is for Allah in every state), he has indeed offered the thanks for all the blessings of that day.' - Sunan Ibn Majah 3804. The chain was declared Hasan by Al-Albani.
