Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.
*Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa il lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakunanna minal-khasirin*
When to Read
This profound supplication from Surah Al-A'raf is ideal to recite when reflecting on past mistakes, feeling the weight of guilt, or struggling with self-recrimination. It's particularly powerful during the latter part of the night, in the moments after prayer, or whenever you feel a strong need to turn to Allah for mercy and a fresh start.
How to Read
Recite this ayah with sincerity, acknowledging your own shortcomings ('zalamna anfusana' โ we have wronged ourselves). Understand that true strength comes not from denying our mistakes, but from humbly admitting them to Allah and seeking His boundless forgiveness and mercy. Visualize yourself asking for His grace, acknowledging that without it, we are indeed lost.
Virtues & Benefits
This verse encapsulates the core of repentance and reliance on Allah's mercy. By reciting it, we are essentially practicing tawbah (repentance) and acknowledging our absolute dependence on Allah's forgiveness. The Quran itself tells us that Allah loves those who repent (Al-Baqarah 2:222). This dua is a powerful tool for self-purification, releasing the burden of guilt, and rebuilding our relationship with our Creator, allowing us to move forward with hope and conviction.
