O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all Your displeasure. I seek refuge in You from cowardice. I seek refuge in You from being overcome in my affairs. I seek refuge in You from going astray or being led astray, from slipping or causing others to slip, from wronging others or being wronged, from acting ignorantly or being treated ignorantly. I seek refuge in You from decrepitude. I seek refuge in You from being humiliated by people. O Allah, Lord of Jibril, Mika'il, and Israfil, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the seen and the unseen, You judge between Your servants concerning that wherein they differ. Guide me to the truth that is disputed, by Your leave. Indeed, You guide whomever You will to a straight path.

Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a treasure trove of seeking protection. By asking refuge from the 'cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all Your displeasure,' we acknowledge Allah's absolute power and our dependence on Him for continued favor and well-being. Seeking refuge from 'cowardice' and being 'overcome in my affairs' strengthens our resolve and courage. The numerous pleas to avoid going astray, causing others to go astray, slipping, causing others to slip, wronging, being wronged, acting ignorantly, or being treated ignorantly are crucial for maintaining good character and positive interactions. Protection from 'decrepitude' (old age that diminishes one's faculties) and 'being humiliated by people' are also profound requests for a dignified life. Finally, the invocation of Allah as the Lord of the archangels and the Creator, coupled with the plea for guidance in disputed matters, shows a deep reliance on Him for discernment and truth.

Al-Bara' bin 'Azib narrated: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say when he retired to his bed: > Allahumma bismika ahya wa amut. (O Allah, with Your name I live and die) And when he woke up, he used to say: > Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amatana wal-ilayhin-nushoor. (Praise be to Allah Who resurrected us after causing us to die, and to Him is the Resurrection) And when he went to bed, he used to recite: > Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-juhni wal-harami (i.e. old age). And when he sought a thing, he used to say: > Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afwata wal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. (O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter). And when he sought a thing, he would say: > Allahumma inni as'aluka hudaka was-sadada. (O Allah, I ask You for guidance and straightness). And he also said: > Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fu'jati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all Your displeasure). And he used to say: > Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-juhni, wa a'udhu bika minal-harami, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatid-dajjal, wa a'udhu bika min 'adhabin-nar, wa a'udhu bika min 'adhabil-qabri. (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from cowardice, and I seek refuge in You from decrepitude, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the Fire, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave). And he also said: > Allahumma inni a'udhu bika an adilla aw udalla, aw azilla aw uzalla, aw azlima aw uzlama, aw ajhala aw yujhala 'alayya. (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from going astray or being led astray, from slipping or causing others to slip, from wronging others or being wronged, from acting ignorantly or being treated ignorantly). And he also said: > Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min da'watin la yustajabu laha. (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that is not beneficial, from a heart that does not fear You, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered). And he also said: > Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min an akuna dhuloolan lin-nas. (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from being humiliated by people). And when he woke up from sleep, he would say: > Allahumma Rabba Jibrila wa Mika'ila wa Israfila, Fatiras-samawati wal-ardi, 'Alimul-ghaybi wash-shahadah, anta tahkumu bayna 'ibadika fima kanu fihi yakhtalifun. Ihdini limakhtulifa fihi minal-haqqi bi'idnik, innaka tahdi man tasha'u ila siratin mustaqim. (O Allah, Lord of Jibril, Mika'il, and Israfil, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the seen and the unseen, You judge between Your servants concerning that wherein they differ. Guide me to the truth that is disputed, by Your leave. Indeed, You guide whomever You will to a straight path).
