O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, to shun evil deeds, and to love the poor. And I ask You to forgive me and have mercy upon me. And if You intend to test people, then take me to Yourself without subjecting me to the test. And I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of the deed that will bring me closer to Your love.
Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'l al-khayrat, wa tark al-munkarat, wa hubb al-masakin, wa an taghfira li wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fi khalqika fitnatan fa tawaffani ghayra maftun. Wa as'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.

Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, while not directly mentioning anger, encompasses the essence of controlling one's lower self. By asking Allah to enable us to do good deeds and shun evil, we are seeking His help in overcoming negative impulses like anger. The request for 'love of the deed that will bring me closer to Your love' encourages us to pursue actions that please Allah, which inherently involves good character and self-restraint. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught specific actions and duas to manage anger: When someone asked him, 'Advise me,' he said, 'Do not get angry.' The man repeated his request, and he said, 'Do not get angry.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6116). Another guidance is to make dua: > **Arabic:** اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ، وَرَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، كُنْ لِي جَارًا مِنْ شَرِّ الـْـزَّهْرَاءِ وَالـْـزَّبَـانِـيَـةِ، وَكُنْ لِي جَارًا مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْتَ، تَـقَـنَّـصُـهُـمُ اللَّهُ، وَأَخْـرَسَـهُـمُ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ لِي الْعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ > **Translation:** 'O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne, be my neighbour against the evil of the outcast and the evildoer, and be my neighbour against the evil of everything You have created, seizing by its forelock. O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the next.' > **Transliteration:** *Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab', wa Rabba al-'arsh al-'adhim, kun li jiran min sharri az-zahra'i wa az-zabaniyah, wa kun li jiran min sharri kulli shay'in khalaqta, taqannasuhumu Allahu, wa akhrasahumu. Allahumma inni as'aluka li al-'afiyah fi ad-dunya wal-akhirah.* > — Sahih Muslim 2712 When angry, the Prophet ﷺ advised: 'If one of you becomes angry, and he is standing, he should sit down, so that his anger will go away. If he is already sitting, he should lie down.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4782). Another powerful response is to say: > **Arabic:** أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ > **Translation:** 'I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan.' > **Transliteration:** *A'udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim.* > — Sahih al-Bukhari 3292

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'I ask Allah for four things: I ask Allah for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring one closer to Your love, and I ask Allah that You make my heart firm upon Your religion. And I ask Allah that You make my life a healthy one and that You grant me death when You cause me to die in a state of righteousness. And I ask Allah for great mercy, and the resolve to be firm in forgiveness and pardon. All praise is due to Allah for He is the Hearer of supplication.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3233)
