O Allah, I ask You for a soul at peace with You, believing in meeting You, content with Your decree, and satisfied with Your bestowal.
Allahumma inni as'aluka nafsan bikamutma'innah, tu'minu biliqa'ika, wa tarḍa biqaḍa'ika, wa taqna'u bi'aṭa'ika.
When to Read
This is a comprehensive supplication that can be recited at any time, but it is particularly beneficial to recite it during the times when supplication is more likely to be answered, such as after obligatory prayers, during the last third of the night, or when feeling overwhelmed by negative emotions like envy or resentment. It's a beautiful prayer for ongoing self-purification.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a present heart. Focus on the meaning of each phrase: asking for a soul at peace (mutma'innah), which signifies inner tranquility and steadfastness in faith. Believe in meeting Allah (tu'minu biliqa'ika), remembering the accountability and reward awaiting us. Be content with His decree (tarḍa biqaḍa'ika), accepting both the ease and hardship He ordains. And be satisfied with His bestowal (taqna'u bi'aṭa'ika), appreciating whatever He gives, whether it's wealth, health, or status, without coveting what others have.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a powerful tool for cultivating inner peace and guarding against destructive traits like envy and hatred. By asking Allah for a soul that is content and accepting of His decree, we strengthen our reliance on Him and reduce the space for negative feelings to fester. Envy arises from discontentment and a perceived lack in our own lives, often fueled by comparing ourselves to others. Hatred can stem from misunderstandings, perceived injustices, or resentment. This supplication directly addresses the root of these issues by asking for a deep-seated contentment with Allah's plan and provision, fostering gratitude and acceptance, which are antidotes to envy and malice.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to teach his companions the importance of seeking refuge in Allah from undesirable states. This specific dua was taught for a soul that finds its rest and assurance in Allah, trusts in His promise of meeting Him, accepts His judgments, and is satisfied with what He provides. It's a prayer for a sound heart, free from the anxieties and discontents that can lead to envy and ill-will towards others.
