When to Read

This powerful dua is perfect to recite at the beginning of any business endeavor, when starting a new day of work, or whenever you feel a need to reaffirm your intention to conduct your affairs with integrity. It's particularly beneficial when facing a specific transaction or decision that might test your honesty.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention, focusing on what you are asking for. Visualize beneficial knowledge guiding your decisions, goodly provision flowing into your business, and your actions being accepted by Allah. It’s best recited after the obligatory prayers, but can be made at any time. Raise your hands slightly as you make this supplication, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication encapsulates three essential pillars for a righteous and successful life, both in this world and the next, especially concerning business. 1. **'Ilman Naafi'an (Beneficial Knowledge):** This isn't just about knowing facts, but knowledge that guides you to do what is right, helps you understand the rulings related to your dealings, and allows you to discern truth from falsehood. Knowledge helps you avoid transactions that are impermissible or exploitative. 2. **Rizqan Tayyiban (Goodly Provision):** This asks for provision that is pure, lawful (halal), and free from anything impure or ill-gotten. In business, this means ensuring your profits come from honest work and ethical practices, not deception or unfairness. 3. **'Amalan Mutaqabbalan (Acceptable Deeds):** This is the ultimate goal – that your efforts in your business are pleasing to Allah. Deeds become acceptable when they are done with sincerity for Allah and in accordance with His guidance. Honest business dealings are a form of worship ('ibadah) that Allah accepts. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say this dua every morning after the Fajr prayer (recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah). Making it a habit connects your daily work to seeking Allah's help and acceptance.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'None of you should say: O Allah, forgive me if You wish, O Allah, have mercy on me if You wish. Rather, he should ask for His forgiveness with determination, for Allah does what He wills. For indeed, there is no one to compel Him.' Then he said: 'The Prophet ﷺ used to say in the morning: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.' And he used to say in the evening: 'O Allah, I ask You for health, and safety, and Your protection in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religion, my worldly life, my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my flaws and calm my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, and from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your greatness from being snatched away from beneath me.'
