O Allah, guide me to the best of characters, for no one can guide to the best of them except You. And turn me away from bad characters, for no one can turn away from the bad of them except You.
Allahumma ihdini li-ahsanil-akhlaqi, la yahdi li-ahsaniha illa Anta, wasrif 'anni sayyi'aha, la yasrifu 'anni sayyi'aha illa Anta.
When to Read
This is a powerful supplication to recite regularly, especially in the morning and evening. Make it a part of your daily duas, seeking Allah's help to embody the noble qualities of the Sahabah – their sincerity, patience, generosity, and unwavering devotion to truth. It's particularly relevant when you find yourself struggling with a particular character flaw or aspire to strengthen a positive trait.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt conviction. Raise your hands as you would in any other dua, looking towards the sky, and then bringing them down over your face after completion. Focus on the meaning of each word and truly ask Allah to transform your character. It's best recited when you are in a state of purity (wudu).
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly asks Allah for the best of characters, a quality that was profoundly evident in the Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this supplication as a means to attain the highest moral standards. Good character is a cornerstone of our faith; the Prophet ﷺ said: 'The best among you are those who have the best character.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3556). By seeking Allah's guidance in this manner, we aim to emulate the love and respect the Sahabah had for the Prophet ﷺ and for each other, fostering a community built on kindness and mutual understanding.
