Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly addresses the cultivation of self-reliance and the avoidance of complaining by seeking the very foundations for such virtues. * **Guidance (Huda):** Knowing the right path prevents us from straying into despair or blaming others when things don't go our way. * **Piety (Tuqa):** Taqwa means having consciousness of Allah, which leads to obedience and avoidance of His prohibitions. A pious person is more likely to accept His decree and remain patient. * **Chastity ('Afaf):** This encompasses purity in all aspects, including abstaining from seeking what is with others and being content with one's own lot. It combats envy and the desire to complain about what one lacks compared to others. * **Self-sufficiency/Contentment (Ghina):** This is the ultimate state of not needing to beg from people, nor feeling impoverished in spirit. True Ghina comes from the heart's reliance on Allah. When the heart is content with Allah, the desire to complain diminishes significantly.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Indeed, Allah does not look at your bodies or your forms, but He looks at your hearts. And he pointed to his chest with his fingers three times and said: 'O people, spend in charity.' Then a man said: 'O Allah's Messenger, will I get anything from spending?' He said: 'Yes, indeed, spend in charity. And do not hoard, for if you hoard, Allah will hoard from you. Do not turn your backs on your enemies, and do not be greedy, and do not practice deception, and do not be a usurer. And do not practice fraud, and do not seek the good fortune of your women, and do not cease to be generous, and do not cease to be merciful. And do not make the Quran a thing behind you, and O slave of Allah, do not be greedy.' Then he said: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of hearing, and the evil of seeing, and the evil of my tongue, and the evil of my heart, and the evil of my desires.' Then he said: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, and piety, and chastity, and self-sufficiency.' — Sahih Muslim 2721
