Virtues & Benefits
A pure heart (qalb saleem) is a sign of strong faith (iman). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Ibrahim (peace be upon him) will meet his fathers on the Day of Resurrection and he will say: 'O Allah, the one who kept my company, O Allah, honour my guest.' Then he will be told: 'Was your father not satisfied with that I should not be resurrected with him?' He will say: 'Yes, but I fear a fire which I have been forbidden to ask about.' Then Allah will say: 'Bring him out.' So he will be brought out and set down beside me. Then Allah will say to him: 'Do you recognize your father?' He will say: 'Yes.' Then Allah will say: 'Then what is your wish?' He will say: 'O Lord, you promised me that you would not disgrace me on the Day when they are resurrected. Which of the people is the best?' And Allah will say: 'Do you not want to see the people?' He will say: 'Yes.' Then Allah will show him the people and he will be told: 'See them and choose.' And he will see a man, and it will be said to him: 'Is this the one whom you wanted?' He will say: 'Yes.' And it will be said to him: 'You shall have ten such as this.' Then Ibrahim (peace be upon him) will say: 'O Lord, my Lord, the best is what is with you.' Then Allah will say: 'And he will meet his father and he will say to him: O my father, what prevented you from following me? He will say: O my father, my being pleased with Allah and my obedience to Him prevented me.' And Allah will say to him: 'The best of the people who are with me are the people of the world who obeyed me and followed my commands.' And he will meet his father and say to him: 'O my father, what prevented you from following me?' He will say: 'O my father, I followed my father.' And Allah will say: 'I have forbidden the jinn and the jinn.'" Sahih Muslim 1549. While this hadith focuses on meeting fathers, the concept of a 'pure heart' is central to seeking Allah's pleasure and avoiding divine wrath. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also said: "Indeed, Allah does not look at your forms, nor at your wealth, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds." Sahih Muslim 2564. A pure heart ensures our actions are for the sake of Allah and free from corrupting influences like jealousy, hatred, and malice.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "A man will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection with the worst of people, and it will be said to him: 'Did you have two faces and two tongues, supporting one group and speaking against another?' And he will be given two tongues of fire on the Day of Resurrection, and two cloaks of fire, and two cloaks of fire, and two cloaks of fire." Sunan Ibn Majah 3846 describes the importance of sincerity. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also said: "The best of the people is one who has a pious heart and a truthful tongue." They asked: "A pious heart and a truthful tongue, do we know this?" He said: "Yes, it is to abhor the world and desire the Hereafter." Then he said: "And the worst of the people is one who has two faces and two tongues, seeking to please everyone by its means." They said: "This is known to us, O Messenger of Allah, and it is known that he is the most hateful of people to Allah." Sunan Ibn Majah 4160. The concept of 'qalban saleeman' encompasses not having these negative traits.
