Virtues & Benefits
This beautiful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his wife Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), is a treasure trove of requests. It asks for: * **A humble heart (قلبًا خَاشِعًا):** This is the foundation of piety, leading to sincere worship and awe of Allah. * **Beneficial knowledge ('علْمًا نَافِعًا):** Knowledge that guides us and improves our actions. * **Sincere conviction (يَقِينًا صَادِقًا):** Firm belief that strengthens faith. * **A steadfast religion (دِينًا قَيِّمًا):** The ability to remain firm on the straight path. * **Well-being (العَافِيَةَ):** Health and safety from afflictions. * **Repentance before death (تَوْبَةً قَبْلَ المَوْتِ):** The ultimate blessing of seeking forgiveness while we have the chance. * **Joy in meeting Allah (يَومَ الفَرَحِ شَوْقًا إِلَيْكَ):** A sign of true love for Allah, longing for the ultimate reunion. * **A soul at peace (نَفْسًا مُطْمَئِنَّةً):** Inner tranquility that comes from certainty in Allah. * **Abundant mercy (جَزِيْلَ رَحْمَتِكَ):** Allah's vast mercy encompasses all things. * **Gratitude (شُكْرَكَ):** The ability to thank Allah for His blessings. * **Dignity ('عِزًّا):** True honor that comes from Allah. * **Guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment (هُدًى، وَتُقًى، وَعَفَافًا، وَغِنًى):** All essential qualities for a fulfilling life in this world and the next. By asking for these things, we are essentially praying for a balanced character, a strong connection with Allah, and a life lived in accordance with His commands, which naturally fosters a softer, more compassionate heart towards all of creation.
