Gatherings & Meetings
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 770

O Allah, guide me to the truth concerning that about which there are disputes, by Your leave. Indeed, You guide whomever You will to a straight path.

Allahumma ihdini lima ukhtulifa fihi minal-haqqi bi idhnika, innaka tahdi man tasha'u ila siratin mustaqim.

When to Read

This dua is especially poignant after a disagreement or conflict has occurred during a gathering, whether it was a family event, a meeting with friends, or even a community gathering. Recite it when feelings are still unsettled, and the desire for resolution and clarity is strong. It can be recited immediately after the conflict, or later when reflecting on the situation and seeking Allah's guidance for reconciliation.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. Imagine the disputes and misunderstandings, and humbly ask Allah (SWT) to illuminate the truth for you and all involved. It's best to say it privately after the gathering, or perhaps at a moment of quiet reflection soon after. Maintain a state of wudu if possible, and face the Qiblah.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful supplication directly asks Allah (SWT) for guidance in resolving disputes. It acknowledges that true understanding and resolution come only through His permission and guidance. Reciting this can help to soften hearts, clear confusion, and pave the way for reconciliation. It reminds us that our ability to discern the truth and mend relationships is a blessing from Allah, fostering humility and dependence on Him.

Source & Authentication

Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to supplicate: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.' (Sahih Muslim 2721) While the main dua provided is a specific supplication for disputes, the context of seeking guidance in the Hadith collection points to the broader principle of asking Allah for direction in all matters, including those that cause discord.
