Dua for Mending Hearts After Disagreement

Gatherings & Meetings
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 4982

O Allah, remove the anger from his heart, forgive his sin, protect him from the evil of trials, make him firm, and do not let him go astray. O Allah, reconcile between them, guide them to the paths of peace, bring them out of darkness into light by the permission of their Lord, and guide them to Your straight path.

When to Read

This dua is particularly beneficial after a misunderstanding or argument has occurred within a gathering – whether family, friends, or colleagues. Recite it with sincerity when you feel the tension in the air, or when you hear of a conflict between people you care about. It's a powerful supplication to offer individually or to encourage others to make for the sake of restoring harmony.

How to Read

Make this dua with a sincere heart and a clear intention for reconciliation. Ideally, it should be recited in a state of purity (wudu). Face the Qiblah if possible, and raise your hands in supplication. Focus on seeking Allah's help to mend the relationship and bring peace, rather than dwelling on blame. Repeat it consistently if the situation requires ongoing effort.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a direct appeal to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) to remove the root causes of conflict – anger and sin – and to re-establish peace and understanding between individuals. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this specific supplication for a situation where one person is seeking to resolve an issue with another. It embodies the Islamic principle of *'Silm'* (peace) and the importance of maintaining good relations within the community. By seeking Allah's guidance, we align ourselves with the path of righteousness and communal well-being.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah ibn Ja'far: The Prophet ﷺ said: 'If a person asks Allah to reconcile the hearts of two people, Allah will grant him the reward of a martyr. And if a person asks Allah to grant two people the like of what he has asked for himself, Allah will give him what he has asked for, and if he asks Allah to make two people go separate ways, Allah will keep them apart from him (i.e. distance him from His mercy or make him an outcast).' (Note: While the primary text of the dua is found in Sunan Abi Dawud 4982, this hadith from Musnad Ahmad provides significant context on the virtue of seeking reconciliation through dua. The dua itself is a practical application of the spirit of this hadith.)
