Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You! I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.
Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdika, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk.
When to Read
This beautiful supplication is recited at the end of any gathering or meeting. Whether it's a casual chat with friends, a formal discussion, a family meal, or any time people come together and then disperse, this dua serves as a powerful way to seek Allah's pardon for any shortcomings, unintentional wrongdoings, or vain speech that might have occurred.
How to Read
Recite this dua once immediately after leaving a gathering. It is meant to be said at the very end, as you are parting ways. The intention is to seal the gathering with remembrance of Allah and a request for His forgiveness, purifying whatever might have been imperfect.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is known as the 'Expiation of the Gathering' (Kaffaratul Majlis) because it is specifically taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to atone for any unintentional lapses that might happen in a gathering. These could include idle talk, backbiting, or other speech that displeases Allah. By reciting this, we ensure that our time spent with others is ultimately a source of blessing and not regret. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever sits in a gathering and there is a lot of idle talk, and before leaving the gathering he says: 'Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You! I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance,' then that which was said in the gathering will be an expiation for him." (Sunan Abi Dawud 4861 - Hasan)
