"Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and I turn to You in repentance."

Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdik, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa ant, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

Recite this dua once after concluding a gathering. It's best recited just before you or others physically leave the space. Focus on the meaning of seeking forgiveness and praising Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a profound means of expiating any shortcomings or sins committed during a gathering. It purifies the record of our actions, ensuring that what might have been said in jest, or inadvertently overlooked, is forgiven by Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever sits in a gathering and misses thereof (i.e., talks too much nonsense) or makes a lapse, it will be an expiation for him.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4860)

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever sits in a gathering and misses thereof (i.e., talks too much nonsense) or makes a lapse, it will be an expiation for him.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4860) The wording of the dua itself is also narrated in Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3433 as: 'Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdik, la ilaha illa ant, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk.' (graded Sahih by Al-Albani)
