When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly recommended to be recited after the Fajr (dawn) prayer on Friday. Friday holds a special status in Islam, and its morning is a blessed time for supplication. Making this dua on Friday, when you are actively seeking Allah's favor and forgiveness, can be a beautiful way to ask for strength against your personal weaknesses, whether they are related to habits, character, or spiritual struggles. Think of it as preparing your heart and mind for the blessed day ahead, seeking Allah's assistance before the day's challenges even fully manifest.

How to Read

When reciting this dua, approach it with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands, as is the Sunnah when making dua, and begin with praise for Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Recite the Arabic phrase with clarity, contemplating its meaning. Ask Allah earnestly for beneficial knowledge that guides you, good and lawful provisions that sustain you, and deeds that are accepted by Him. It's recommended to repeat it three times. After reciting, continue to make personal supplications for yourself, your family, and the Ummah, specifically asking for help to overcome the weaknesses that trouble you. Remember, sincerity and conviction in Allah's response are key.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses three essential aspects of a Muslim's life: knowledge, provision, and deeds. By asking for 'beneficial knowledge,' we seek understanding that not only enlightens us but also guides our actions towards what is right. Asking for 'good provisions' ensures that our sustenance is lawful and pure, bringing barakah (blessings) into our lives. Most importantly, requesting 'acceptable deeds' means asking Allah to accept our acts of worship and obedience, making our efforts truly count in His sight. When made on Friday, this supplication aligns with the blessed nature of the day, potentially amplifying its acceptance. It’s a comprehensive request that lays the foundation for spiritual growth and resilience against personal weaknesses.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Thawban that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) finished his prayer, he would seek refuge in Allah three times and say: 'O Allah, protect me from punishment in your chastisement on the Day you resurrect Your slaves.' Then he said: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is useful, provisions that are pure and deeds that are accepted.' [Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 6, Hadith 925]
