Dua for Strength and Success on Friday

Friday / Jumuah
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This powerful supplication is excellent to recite on Friday, especially during the blessed hour of answer (sa'at al-ijabah) or after the Asr prayer. It is also beneficial to recite it in the morning, as it encapsulates seeking the best for oneself in this life and the hereafter. For overcoming obstacles and achieving goals, reciting this with sincere intention on Friday can bring immense barakah.

How to Read

Recite with sincere intention and full conviction in Allah's support. Raise your hands as you make dua, just as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us. Focus on the meaning of the words: seeking knowledge that benefits, sustenance that is pure and lawful, and deeds that Allah accepts. Believe that Allah hears your supplication and will respond in the best way.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses seeking three of the most important things for a believer. Beneficial knowledge helps one understand and implement the deen correctly. Good provision ensures one is sustained without falling into unlawful means, which in turn allows for better worship. Accepted deeds are the ultimate goal, as they are what truly benefit us on the Day of Judgment. By asking for these, we are essentially asking Allah to grant us the means and the acceptance to succeed in both our worldly pursuits and our spiritual journey, making it ideal for overcoming challenges.

Source & Authentication

The Mother of the Believers, 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say when he greeted the two [Fajr] and Maghrib prayers: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds).
