O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and senility, from stinginess. And I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and from the trials of life and death.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wal-jubni wal-harami, wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min 'adhab al-qabri, wa min fitnatil-mahya wal-mawati
When to Read
This powerful dua is particularly potent when recited on a blessed Friday, especially after Asr prayer, a time when Allah's mercy is abundant and supplications are more likely to be answered. Make it a habit to recite it before concluding your day's worship or as you prepare for the week ahead, seeking Allah's assistance to combat procrastination in all aspects of your life, including your spiritual duties.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands as you would in supplication. Begin by acknowledging Allah's greatness and then seek refuge in Him from these specific ills. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, internalizing the plea for protection against helplessness, idleness, fear, extreme old age (which can sometimes lead to inability to act), and miserliness. Believe that Allah, in His infinite mercy, will grant you what you ask for if it is good for you.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly addresses key spiritual and practical weaknesses that fuel procrastination: incapacity (feeling unable to start), laziness (lack of motivation), cowardice (fear of failure or the task itself), senility (physical or mental decline), and stinginess (which can extend to withholding effort). By seeking refuge in Allah from these, we are essentially asking Him to grant us the strength, motivation, courage, and a sound mind to act. It also encompasses seeking protection from the grave's torment and life's trials, reminding us of the ultimate accountability and the importance of striving in this life.

And I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and from the trials of life and death.) โ Sahih al-Bukhari 6368
