Dua for the Acceptance of Jumu'ah Prayer for the Entire Ummah

Friday / Jumuah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1235

O Allah, accept our prayer and all our righteous deeds. Forgive us, our parents, and all Muslim men and women. Turn to us in repentance, indeed You are the Acceptor of Repentance, the Most Merciful.

Allahumma taqabbal minna salatana wa jamee'a a'malinas-salihah, waghfir lana wa liwalidayna wa li jamee'il muslimeena wal muslimat, wa tub 'alayna innaka antat-tawwabur-raheem.

When to Read

This dua is particularly fitting to be recited after the Jumu'ah prayer, during the time when sincere supplication is most likely to be accepted. It can also be recited at any other time during Friday, or after any prayer, as a comprehensive request for acceptance of deeds and forgiveness for oneself, family, and the entire Ummah.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart, focusing on the meaning of each word. Raising your hands during the dua is a recommended Sunnah, especially after a prayer. It's best recited after finishing the Jumu'ah prayer, perhaps before moving from your prayer spot or after the recommended Sunnah prayers following Jumu'ah. Ensure you are in a state of Wudu if possible, though it's not strictly mandatory for making dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses several profound requests: seeking the acceptance of our prayers and good deeds, asking for forgiveness for ourselves and our parents, and extending that plea to the entire Ummah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us the importance of making comprehensive duas that benefit ourselves and others. Seeking forgiveness and acceptance is central to our relationship with Allah. The mention of 'turning to us in repentance' reflects Allah's attribute as Al-Tawwab (The Acceptor of Repentance), encouraging us to constantly seek His mercy.

Source & Authentication

The hadith from Sahih Muslim 1235 describes the companions making various supplications after prayer. While this specific wording isn't a single distinct narration, it's a composite of the *spirit* and *type* of supplications the Prophet ﷺ encouraged and the companions made, focusing on acceptance of deeds, forgiveness, and encompassing the Ummah. For instance, the concept of asking for acceptance of deeds is widely supported. The emphasis on forgiveness for parents and the wider community is a key aspect of Islamic supplication.
