اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي نُورًا، وَفِي بَصَرِي نُورًا، وَفِي سَمْعِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ يَمِينِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ يَسَارِي نُورًا، وَأَمَامِي نُورًا، وَخَلْفِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ فَوْقِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ تَحْتِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ لِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ عِظَمِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ لَحْمِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ دَمِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ شَعَرِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ بَشَرِي نُورًا، اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِنِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ فِي لِسَانِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي سَعَةً، وَلِسَانِي حُجَّةً، وَاجْعَلْ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيَّ سَدَّةً، وَمِنْ خَلْفِي سَدَّةً، وَعَلَى بَصَرِي غِشَاوَةً، وَاجْعَلْهُمْ مِنْ وَرَاءِ سَدَّةً، يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.
O Allah, place light within my heart, and light within my sight, and light within my hearing, and light to my right, and light to my left, and light in front of me, and light behind me, and light above me, and light beneath me. O Allah, grant me light, and make my bones light, and make my flesh light, and make my blood light, and make my hair light, and make my skin light. O Allah, give me light, and place light upon my tongue, and grant me spaciousness in my heart, and make my tongue a proof for me. And place a barrier before me, and a barrier behind me, and a veil over my sight, and make them such that they do not see me. O Most Merciful of the merciful.
Allahumma-j'al fi qalbi nooran, wa fi basari nooran, wa fi sam'i nooran, wa 'an yameeni nooran, wa 'an yasari nooran, wa amami nooran, wa khalfi nooran, wa min fawqi nooran, wa min tahti nooran, waj'al li nooran, waj'al 'idhmi nooran, waj'al lahami nooran, waj'al dami nooran, waj'al sha'ri nooran, waj'al bashari nooran. Allahumma a'tini nooran, waj'al fi lisani nooran, waj'al fi qalbi sa'atan, wa lisani hujjah. Waj'al min bayni yadayya saddatan, wa min khalfi saddatan, wa 'ala basari ghishawatan, waj'alhum min wara'i saddah. Ya Arhamar Rahimeen.

It was narrated from Ibn `Abbas that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to teach them this supplication in the same way that he used to teach them a Surah from the Qur'an.
