O Allah, forgive me my mistakes, my ignorance, my extravagance in my affairs, and whatever You know better about me. O Allah, forgive me my jesting and my seriousness, my errors and my deliberate acts, my resolutions and my jesting, my errors and my deliberate acts, and all of that is with me. O Allah, forgive me what I have committed and what I have delayed, what I have concealed and what I have done openly, and what You know better about me. You are the One Who sends forth and the One Who delays, and You are Able to do all things.
Allahumma-ghfir li khatee'ati, wa jahli, wa israafi fi amri, wa ma anta a'lamu bihi minni. Allahumma-ghfir li hazli wa jiddi, wa khata'i wa 'amdi, wa 'azmi wa hazli, wa khata'i wa 'amdi, wa kullu dhalika 'indi. Allahumma-ghfir li ma qaddamtu wa ma akhkhartu, wa ma asrartu wa ma a'lantu, wa ma anta a'lamu bihi minni. Antal-muqaddimu wa antal-mu'akhkhiru, wa anta 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer.
When to Read
This profound dua is for seeking comprehensive forgiveness from Allah for all types of sins, whether intentional or unintentional, secret or public. It's particularly potent when we reflect on how our sins can indeed obscure the path to Jannah, preventing us from drawing closer to our Lord. Recite it during your daily prayers, after your obligatory salah, or at any time you feel the need to purify your heart and seek Allah's mercy. Making it a habit, especially during the last third of the night, is a blessed practice.
How to Read
To recite this dua with proper etiquette, ensure you are in a state of purity (wudu). Face the Qiblah, raise your hands as you would in supplication, and recite with sincere humility and a hopeful heart. Believe in Allah's ability to forgive and His infinite mercy. Repeat it multiple times if you wish, reflecting on the meaning of each phrase. Accompanying this dua with sincere repentance (tawbah) and a firm resolve to avoid the sins is crucial for its effectiveness.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a complete plea for forgiveness, addressing all facets of human failing. By seeking refuge in Allah's complete knowledge of our sins, we acknowledge His sovereignty and our dependence on His mercy. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this comprehensive prayer, highlighting that for the believer, these words are a source of great benefit, as Allah forgives those who seek His pardon. As Allah says, 'And those who, when they commit an immorality or do wrong to their souls, remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins—and who can forgive sins except Allah?—and are never persistent in what they have done while they know.' (Surah Al 'Imran 3:135). This dua helps clear the spiritual dust that can accumulate due to sins, thus making the path to Jannah brighter and more accessible.
