Dua for Forgiveness and Repentance After Experiencing Divine Punishment

Forgiveness
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 1/391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment upon me is inevitable. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept hidden in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sorrow, and the reliever of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil ghaybi 'indak, an taj'alal Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Source & Authentication

Ahmad narrated in his Musnad: It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "No servant suffers any anxiety or grief, and then says: 'O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment upon me is inevitable. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept hidden in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sorrow, and the reliever of my anxiety.' ...except that Allah will take away his anxiety and grief, and replace them with joy."
