O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the reversal of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure. And I seek refuge in You from distress and misery, and the evil of fate, and the rejoicing of enemies. And I seek refuge in You from the worries of this world and the punishment of the Hereafter.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuji'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik, wa a'udhu bika min al-bu'si wash-shaqa'i wa su'il-qada'i wa shamatatil-a'da'i, wa a'udhu bika min hammid-dunya wa 'uqubatil-akhirah.
When to Read
This comprehensive supplication is powerful when recited after salah, during the night, or any time one feels overwhelmed by the potential consequences of their actions or the unknown trials of life. It’s particularly relevant when reflecting on Allah’s justice and the vastness of His knowledge, which encompasses retribution we may not foresee.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and deep contemplation of its meaning. Raise your hands in supplication as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Focus on the intention of seeking Allah's protection and acknowledge your complete reliance on Him for safety from His unseen anger and punishment.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a profound reliance on Allah and acknowledges the limited scope of human foresight. By seeking refuge from the 'suddenness of His punishment' and 'all of His displeasure,' we are taught to remain constantly mindful of Allah’s sovereignty and the potential consequences of disobedience, even if unseen. It also includes seeking protection from worldly distress and the inevitable punishment of the Hereafter, offering comprehensive spiritual and temporal safety.

Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to teach them this supplication in the same way as he used to teach them a Surah of the Qur'an. He would say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabi Jahannama, wa a'udhu bika min 'adhibal-qabr, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatid-dajjal, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat.' 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuji'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik, wa a'udhu bika min al-bu'si wash-shaqa'i wa su'il-qada'i wa shamatatil-a'da'i, wa a'udhu bika min hammid-dunya wa 'uqubatil-akhirah.'
