โœฆ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the Gifting Away of Your Blessings, from the Change of Your Well-being, from the Suddenness of Your Punishment, and from all Your Displeasure. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from them.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minha.

When to Read

This profound dua is particularly potent when you feel the unsettling fear of falling behind, not just in worldly matters, but in spiritual progress and closeness to Allah. It's for those moments when you see others advancing in knowledge, practice, or piety and a whisper of anxiety arises, questioning your own standing or pace. Recite it when this fear starts to cloud your heart, before it leads to despair or envy.

How to Read

This supplication is most effective when recited with sincerity and a deep understanding of its meaning. Raise your hands, as is customary for dua, and pour your heart out to Allah. Focus on the gravity of seeking refuge in Allah from the loss of His favors, the reversal of His protection, and His anger. Let the feeling of vulnerability and reliance on Him wash over you. It's recommended to say this dua in the morning and evening, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ, to seek Allah's protection throughout the day and night.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge in Allah through this dua offers immense protection against the loss of His blessings, be it physical health, spiritual guidance, or material well-being. It guards against the sudden reversal of His favor, which can leave one in a state of distress. By asking protection from His displeasure, we actively seek to remain on the straight path and avoid actions that would anger our Creator. This ultimately helps to quell the fear of being 'left behind' by grounding us in our relationship with Allah, reminding us that true progress is measured by His pleasure, not by comparison to others. It fosters contentment and reliance on Allah, shifting our focus from worldly benchmarks to spiritual advancement.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (๏ทบ) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minha.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the Gifting Away of Your Blessings, from the Change of Your Well-being, from the Suddenness of Your Punishment, and from all Your Displeasure. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from them.)
