Dua for Protection from the Fear of Misguidance Within (Self-Deception)

Fear
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2669

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ

O Turner of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion.

Ya muqallib-al-qulub, thabbit qalbi 'ala deenik

When to Read

This is a profound dua to recite regularly, especially during times of uncertainty, introspection, or when facing personal temptations. It's particularly relevant when one feels a pull towards actions or thoughts that might compromise one's faith or moral compass, even subtly. Making it a habit after Salah or during the late hours of the night can bring immense peace and steadfastness.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, reflecting on the constant need for Allah's guidance. Focus on the meaning of 'Turner of the hearts' – acknowledging that Allah is the One who controls the direction of our thoughts and inclinations. Visualize your heart being anchored firmly to the path of Islam, resisting any internal deviations or subtle whispers of misguidance.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the root of self-deception: the heart's susceptibility to change. By asking Allah to make the heart firm on His religion, we seek protection from straying, whether through overt sins or subtle forms of 'self-misguidance' like rationalizing wrongdoings or developing arrogance. It's a powerful plea for inner stability and adherence to truth, drawing strength from the One who truly governs our hearts.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abdullah: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and I do not know of any Hadith he narrated except that he recited this: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and richness (of self-sufficiency).' Narrated by Umm Salama: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, when he went out from his house: 'Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.' (In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah). He would be told: 'You have been guided, defended and are in no need of guidance and defence.' And Satan would be turned away from him. Another version says: 'He is told: 'You have been guided and defended and the devil is far from you.'
