Dua for Protection from Being an Obstacle to Others

Fear
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1470

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the decline of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure. And I seek refuge in You from the hardships of affliction, the attainment of misery, the evil of decree, and the rejoicing of enemies. And I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and overcome by men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fu'jati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Wa a'udhu bika min jahdil-bala', wa darakish-shaqa', wa su'il-qada', wa shamatatil-a'da'. Wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayn, wa ghalabar-rijal.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humbled heart. Raise your hands as you would during supplication (dua). Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates seeking refuge in Allah from many worldly and spiritual dangers. While the specific wording here focuses on general hardships, the underlying principle of seeking Allah's protection extends to guarding oneself against becoming a source of trouble or harm to others, whether intentionally or unintentionally. By seeking refuge from the 'hardships of affliction' and 'misery,' we are indirectly asking Allah to keep us on a path where we are a positive influence, rather than a stumbling block for our brethren.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge in Allah with these words: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the decline of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure. And I seek refuge in You from the hardships of affliction, the attainment of misery, the evil of decree, and the rejoicing of enemies. And I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and overcome by men.' [Sahih Muslim 1470]
