O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the passing away of Your blessings, and from the change of Your protection, and from the suddenness of Your punishment, and from all that displeases You. And I seek refuge in You from the distress of suffering, and from the lowest of misery, and from evil decree, and from the rejoicing of enemies. O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all affairs, and determination in righteousness, and I ask You to make me thankful for Your blessings, and excellent in Your worship. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good You know, and seek refuge in You from the evil You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know. Indeed, You are the Knower of the unseen.

When to Read
This is a comprehensive dua taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to be recited regularly, especially during times of ease and when reflecting on one's responsibilities and potential for error. It's a prayer for overall well-being and protection from various trials, including the subtle danger of succumbing to arrogance or oppressive tendencies that can arise from power or status.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Utter the words clearly, reflecting on their meaning. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly as you make dua, particularly when asking Allah directly. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible. The Prophet ﷺ taught this dua as part of a longer supplication after prayer, so reciting it after salah is also a virtuous practice.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates seeking refuge in Allah from the loss of blessings, the loss of well-being, sudden divine punishment, and incurring Allah's wrath. It also directly addresses protection from hardship, misery, bad fate, and the gloating of enemies. Importantly, it includes asking for firmness in purpose, resolve in doing good, gratitude, good worship, a sound heart, and a truthful tongue – all qualities that guard against the arrogance and injustice that can characterize a tyrant. By asking for the good Allah knows and refuge from the evil He knows, we acknowledge His complete knowledge and submit to His perfect will, a crucial safeguard against self-deception.

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Ata' ibn Yasar, from Abdullah ibn Mughaffal that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'A people do not go astray after they have been guided except that they are given to disputing.' Then he recited: 'And they say, 'We have no need of it' (43:78). Then he said, 'The most excellent worship is seeking of Allah safety. The most excellent worship is seeking of Allah safety. A people do not go astray after they have been guided except that they are given to disputing.' Then he recited: ' 'And they say, 'We have no need of it' (43:78).
