Dua for Inner Peace and Courage Against Self-Doubt

Fear
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3570

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female-servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is inevitable. Your justice in my regard is fair. I ask You by every Name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself in the hidden knowledge of the unseen: make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the remover of my worries, and my guide to Your Paradise and my salvation from the Fire.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukumuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiik, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbii, wa nuura sadrii, wa jalaa'a huznii, wa dhahaaba hammii, wa qa'idii ila jannatika wa mu'taqii min an-naar.

When to Read

Recite this when feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt begin to creep in. It's particularly powerful when you feel overwhelmed by your own perceived shortcomings, or when facing a task that feels beyond your capability. Turn to it before important meetings, exams, or any situation where you need strength and clarity of mind.

How to Read

Find a quiet place where you can focus. Begin with sincere intention, acknowledging that all strength and guidance comes from Allah. Recite it with a humble heart, reflecting on each phrase and its meaning. Visualize the Qur'an becoming a source of life and light for your heart and soul. It's best recited after Fard prayers or during personal supplication (du'a).

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua directly addresses the root of self-doubt: a disconnect from one's true potential and purpose. By asking Allah to make the Qur'an the 'spring of the heart,' it aims to revitalize the spirit, bringing life and growth where there was stagnation. As a 'light of the chest,' it dispels the darkness of confusion and inadequacy. The dua seeks relief from sorrow and worry, transforming internal struggles into a journey towards Jannah and freedom from Hellfire, thereby instilling deep inner peace and the courage to face challenges with divine support.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ‘Amr bin Al-‘As reported that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught him this dua to say during prayer: 'Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyatii biyadik, madin fiyya hukumuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiik, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbii, wa nuura sadrii, wa jalaa'a huznii, wa dhahaaba hammii, wa qa'idii ila jannatika wa mu'taqii min an-naar.'
