Source & Authentication

The narration states that 'Abdullah bin Khubaib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: 'We went out on a rainy and very dark night, looking for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to lead us in prayer. We found him and he said: 'Did you pray?' I did not say anything. He said: 'Say.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what should I say?' He said: 'Say: *Qul huwa al-ladhi ansha'akum wa-tafasa'ala lakum al-sam'a wa-l-absara wa-l-af'idata qaleelan ma tashkurun.* (Say: He it is who has brought you into existence and appointed for you hearing and sight and hearts; little is that you give thanks). Then he said: 'Say: *A'udhu bi-kalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq* (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created).' (He repeated this three times).
