أُعِيذُكَ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ
I seek protection for you with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every harmful beast, and from every envious eye.
U'eedhuka bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaitanin wa hammati, wa min kulli 'aynin lammah
When to Read
This powerful dua is recited when you admire someone's children – or even your own – and fear the evil eye. It's a way to safeguard them from potential harm stemming from envy or an admiring glance that might carry ill intent, known in Arabic as 'ayn.
How to Read
Recite this dua three times, blowing gently onto the child after each recitation. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this to his grandson Al-Hasan ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with them). The act of blowing (tathfool) is a symbolic gesture of invoking Allah's protection.

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge (in Allah) for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain (may Allah be pleased with them) saying: 'I seek protection for both of you with Allah's perfect words from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'It was through this invocation that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to invoke Allah's protection for me (Isma'il said, he invoked it for Isaac).' Sahih al-Bukhari 3371 'Uthman b. Abi al-'As (Allah be pleased with him) reported: I went to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and sat by him. He said: 'O 'Uthman, do you want to hear a hadith about the most detested persons by Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ)?' 'Uthman said: 'Yes.' Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: 'It is those who insult others and those who boast of their gifts and those who live a life of excess and extravagance and those who insult others, and those who boast of their gifts, and those who live a life of excess and extravagance.' Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: 'I advise you to adopt the humility and gentleness of the Banu Azd tribe, and beware of insolence, for it is like a hidden tree that bears bitter fruit. You must not follow the footsteps of Satan, and that is from your deeds which you do secretly and openly.' Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: 'The evil eye is a reality, and it would lead a man to ascend a mountain and fall down from it, or to fall into a grave.'
