Dua for Protection Against the Evil Eye of Disappointment and Frustration

Evil Eye & Hasad
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2708

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your favors, the change of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuji'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhitik.

When to Read

This dua is incredibly comprehensive and can be recited daily as a general protection. It is particularly beneficial when you feel overwhelmed by life's challenges, notice a string of misfortunes, or fear that blessings might be slipping away. Recite it in the morning to set a protective tone for your day, or whenever you feel a sense of unease or impending hardship.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, focusing on the meaning and the act of seeking refuge directly from Allah. It is best recited with a clear heart and firm conviction in Allah's power to protect. While there's no specific posture, facing the Qiblah and raising your hands slightly can be done as a sign of supplication. Maintaining the habit of reciting it regularly, especially in the morning and evening, strengthens its protective effect.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, encompasses a wide spectrum of protection. By seeking refuge from the 'disappearance of Your favors,' we guard against losing the blessings Allah has bestowed upon us, including our health, wealth, and relationships. Seeking refuge from the 'change of Your well-being' protects us from sudden illnesses or calamities that can disrupt our lives. Asking protection from the 'suddenness of Your vengeance' means seeking refuge from sudden punishments that come without warning. Finally, seeking refuge from 'all of Your displeasure' is a plea to live a life that is pleasing to Allah, thus avoiding the consequences of His anger. Reciting this safeguards us not only from external evils like the evil eye, but also from the internal struggles of disappointment and frustration that arise when we feel things are going wrong.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuji'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhitik.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your favors, the change of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.)
