Evening Reflection: Remembering Allah's Favors

Daily Evening Routine
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3845

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا ، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا ، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

*Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan*

When to Read

As the day draws to a close, perhaps after Asr or Maghrib prayer, or simply as you're preparing for bed. This is a time to pause and reflect on the day's blessings and your actions.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. Imagine yourself presenting your day's efforts and seeking Allah's acceptance. It’s not just about uttering words, but about the intention behind them – acknowledging our reliance on Allah for success and guidance.

Virtues & Benefits

This beautiful supplication encapsulates seeking what is most essential for a believer: knowledge that benefits us in this life and the hereafter, provision that is pure and pleasing to Allah, and deeds that are accepted by our Creator. Reciting it at the end of the day encourages us to evaluate our day's activities and seek Allah's favor in our endeavors, ensuring we are on the right path. It fosters a habit of continuous self-assessment and reliance on Allah.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say in the morning: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.) While this specific wording is primarily associated with the morning supplication (as found in Sahih Muslim 7:30 and Sunan Ibn Majah 3845), the underlying theme of seeking Allah's blessing in knowledge, sustenance, and deeds is a timeless principle. Reflecting on this at the end of the day allows us to consolidate our efforts, seek forgiveness for shortcomings, and prepare for the next day with renewed intention and gratitude for the favors Allah has bestowed upon us throughout the day.
