بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

This beautiful supplication is recited when performing actions that require seeking Allah's protection and blessing, such as locking the doors of your home before retiring for the night. It's a moment to consciously place your trust in Allah (SWT) for safety and security.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction as you physically lock your doors or take measures to secure your home. It's not just about the words, but the feeling of reliance and submission to Allah (SWT) that accompanies them. Take a moment to internalize the meaning: acknowledging Allah's name, entrusting your affairs to Him, and recognizing that all strength and power originate from Him alone.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua affirms our absolute dependence on Allah (SWT) for protection. When we lock our doors, we are taking practical steps for security, but this dua elevates that act by seeking the ultimate security – that of Allah. It reminds us that no lock or barrier is truly impenetrable without His decree. It instills peace of mind, knowing that even in our sleep, we are under Allah's watchful care. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua, showing us its importance in safeguarding ourselves and our belongings through spiritual means.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah bin 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with them): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When a man says: Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah), it is said to him: 'You are guided, sufficient, and protected.' And the devil stays away from him.' A devil says to another devil: 'How can you get to a man who has been guided, is sufficient for him, and protected?'
