Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 4918

By Your Name we live and by Your Name we die. And when you see the evening, say: 'O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this night and the goodness of what is in it and the goodness of what comes after it. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what is in it and the evil of what comes after it. O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and secure me from what I fear. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me. And I seek refuge in Your Magnificence lest I be consumed from beneath me.'

Bismika nahya wa bismika namootu wa idha ra'ayta al-masaa'a faqul: Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadhihi al-laylati wa khayra ma feeha wa khayra ma ba'daha, wa a'udhu bika min sharri hadhihi al-laylati wa sharri ma feeha wa sharri ma ba'daha, Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'aafiyata fee dunyaya wa aakhirati, Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afwa wal-'aafiyata fee deeni wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali, Allahumma-stur 'awraati wa aamin raw'aati, Allahumma-hfadni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yameeni wa 'an shimaali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi-'adhamatika an ughtala min tahti.

Narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to teach us the Tashahhud and the asking for needs (i.e., supplication) during the prayer, and he taught us that when you see the evening, say: 'Bismika nahya wa bismika namootu wa idha ra'ayta al-masaa'a faqul: Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadhihi al-laylati wa khayra ma feeha wa khayra ma ba'daha, wa a'udhu bika min sharri hadhihi al-laylati wa sharri ma feeha wa sharri ma ba'daha, Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'aafiyata fee dunyaya wa aakhirati, Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afwa wal-'aafiyata fee deeni wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali, Allahumma-stur 'awraati wa aamin raw'aati, Allahumma-hfadni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yameeni wa 'an shimaali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi-'adhamatika an ughtala min tahti.'
