Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to the house of Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) and he served him with barley bread and some fat. Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) wanted him to eat more, but he (peace be upon him) said: 'I have eaten enough.' He (peace be upon him) then said: 'O Allah, Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him), grant him wealth from your sustenance.' Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, I ask you by Him Who has created you that you should eat at my place.' So he (peace be upon him) stayed with him (Thabit bin Qais) for a while. Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) then went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: 'I have the wealth of the people of Medina and I have seen the people of Medina selling and buying. So, tell me what is the best way to trade?' He (peace be upon him) said: 'Whenever you offer a prayer, say: Allahumma at'im man at'amani, wasqi man saqani (O Allah, feed those who fed me, and give drink to those who gave me drink).' And when you ask for anything, ask of Allah, the Exalted, the Majestic.
