Dua for Spending the Evening in Remembrance of Allah (Dhikr)

Daily Evening Routine
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 7

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This dua is specifically recommended to be recited after the Fajr (morning) prayer. However, the principle of seeking these three things – beneficial knowledge, pure sustenance, and accepted actions – is relevant at any time, and particularly in the evening as we reflect on the day and prepare for the night. It’s a beautiful way to conclude our day's conscious effort to please Allah, perhaps recited before sleeping.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with the intention of seeking Allah's favor in these crucial aspects of life. Focus on the meaning of each request: knowledge that benefits you and others, provision that is pure and lawful, and deeds that are accepted by Allah. It is best recited after completing your Fajr prayer, but its spirit can be carried into your evening reflections.

Virtues & Benefits

This concise yet comprehensive dua covers the pillars of a balanced and righteous life. Beneficial knowledge guides us, goodly provision allows us to worship Allah without undue hardship and gives us the means to help others, and accepted deeds are the ultimate goal of our worship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua, indicating its profound importance for a Muslim seeking success in this life and the next. It encapsulates seeking Allah's blessing in what we learn, what we consume, and what we do.
