‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “He who says: > **Arabic:** بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ > **Translation:** *Bismillahil-ladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa Huwas-Samee'ul-Aleem* > **Translation:** 'In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing can harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,' three times in the morning, will not be afflicted by sudden misfortune until the morning, and he who says it three times in the morning will not be afflicted by sudden misfortune until the evening.” Another narration by Abu Dawud states: ‘Abdullah ibn Khubayb narrated: We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a very dark and rainy night, and we were looking for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to lead us in prayer. I found him. He said: “Pray.” I did not pray. He said: “Pray.” I did not pray. Then he said: “Say: *'O Allah, I ask of You its goodness, and the goodness of what is in it, and the goodness of what it was sent with. I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it was sent with.'*” Then he said: “Say: *'I seek refuge in the words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.'*” I recited this dua and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “No one will seek refuge with words like these.” (Sahih Muslim 2708, Sunan Abi Dawud 5082)
