Daily Evening Routine
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2708

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited in the evening as part of our daily spiritual protection. As the day winds down, we are often more vulnerable to unseen harms. Reciting this three times in the evening, along with the morning supplications, offers a shield against negativity and ill intentions.

How to Read

Recite this dua three times. It's beneficial to cup your hands as if asking for something, and after each recitation, gently blow into your hands. Then, wipe your hands over your body as much as you can. This practice, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, amplifies the seeking of Allah's protection.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a profound means of seeking Allah's protection from all forms of evil, including the harmful effects of the evil eye ('ayn) and envy (hasad). The 'perfect words of Allah' encompass all His divine attributes and commands, acting as an impenetrable fortress for the believer. By reciting it, we acknowledge Allah's complete power over all creation and seek solace in His unbreakable promises of safety for those who turn to Him.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah b. Khubayb narrated: We went out during a rainy and very dark night, and we called for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to lead us in prayer. I called him: 'O Messenger of Allah! Have I seen 'Abd al-Rahman b. Zaynab?' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'I have not seen him.' Then he said: 'Did you not pray two rak'ahs of prayer before the morning (prayer)?' I said: 'I did not pray.' Upon this he said: 'Indeed, you have missed a lot. Then he said: 'When it is morning, say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from every evil, and from every devil, and from every destructive and malevolent creature.' Then he said: 'Say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You by Your perfect words from the evil of what You have created.' This is a supplication for protection against everything. This narration is found in Sunan Abu Dawud 5088 and Sunan Ibn Majah 3893, and it is authenticated by scholars. The specific wording used in the entry is from Sahih Muslim 2708, which is a very similar narration emphasizing the protection from 'the evil of what He has created'.
