أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited in the evening, as night descends. It's part of the Sunnah for seeking Allah's protection as we transition from the day's activities into the rest of the night.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, with conviction in Allah's power to protect. It is recommended to recite it three times in the evening. You can say it after the Maghrib prayer, or at any point in the evening before sleeping.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua in the evening ensures that nothing will harm you, by the permission of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever says this in the evening will be protected from all harm until morning, and whoever says it in the morning will be protected until evening.' (Sahih Muslim 2708). This protection extends to all sorts of evils, seen and unseen.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.' He said this when night fell and the darkness spread. And a man came and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what has happened tonight?' He said: 'The night has been covered by darkness.' He said: 'And a man came and said: O Messenger of Allah, what has happened tonight?' He said: 'The night has been covered by darkness.' He said: 'The Prophet ﷺ said: O Asma, teach your female slaves to recite these words (i.e., 'A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq'), for they are a protection from the evil of this world and the evil of the jinn.' (Sahih Muslim 2708). Another narration states: 'Whoever says this in the evening will be protected from all harm until morning, and whoever says it in the morning will be protected until evening.' (Sahih Muslim 2708).
