"Our Lord, descend upon us a table [spread with food] from the heaven to be for us a festival for the first of us and the last of us and a sign from You. And provide for us, for You are the best of providers."
Allahumma rabbana anzil 'alayna ma'idatan minas-sama'i takunu lana 'eedan li'awwalina wa akhirina wa ayatan mink, warzuqna wa anta khayrur-raziqin.
When to Read
This dua is recited by Prophet Isa (Jesus), peace be upon him, asking Allah for a miraculous meal from the heavens for his followers. While not a direct command for evening family Quran reading, the spirit of seeking Allah's blessings for family gatherings and shared divine provisions can be invoked. Imagine your family gathering around the Quran in the evening, a time of peace and reflection. You can recite this dua with the intention of asking Allah to bless your family's gathering, to make this time a source of joy and unity, and to accept your efforts in seeking His knowledge together. It's a beautiful way to connect the act of reading His Book with a plea for His abundant grace upon your household.
How to Read
This verse is a supplication from the Quran, made by Prophet Isa (peace be upon him). When reciting it with your family, focus on the sincerity of your hearts. Gather your family, perhaps before you begin reading the Quran together in the evening. Face the Qiblah if possible, raise your hands (as is customary in dua), and recite this verse with heartfelt intention. Explain to your family what the verse signifies – a request for blessings and a sign from Allah. Let it be a moment of shared contemplation and earnest prayer for your family's well-being and spiritual growth, making the Quran session a truly blessed occasion.
Virtues & Benefits
This Quranic verse embodies the essence of seeking Allah's blessings for a shared, sacred event. By reciting it, you are invoking Allah's generosity and seeking His divine favor upon your family.
