Dua for Protection from Debt in the Evening

Evening Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4423

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed by debt and from the domination of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited in the evening, as part of the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ supplications. It's a beautiful way to entrust your worries and seek divine protection before resting.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Raise your hands if you feel the need, and focus on seeking Allah's refuge from these specific afflictions. It's best recited after the Isha prayer, or any time in the evening when you are reflecting and seeking closeness to Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses seeking refuge from a wide range of hardships. Specifically addressing debt ('ghalabatid-dayn'), it highlights the Prophet's ﷺ awareness of its burdensome nature and his reliance on Allah for relief. Seeking refuge from 'qahrir-rijal' (domination of men) also implies protection from unjust dealings, which can often lead to financial hardship and debt. By reciting this, we ask Allah to shield us from circumstances that lead to overwhelming debt and the subjugation that can accompany it.
