Virtues & Benefits
This dua serves multiple purposes: 1. **Seeking Protection:** It acknowledges that even seemingly mundane places can be inhabited by unseen evils or negative influences. By reciting this, we ask Allah to shield us from them. 2. **Maintaining Purity:** Entering the bathroom is an act of leaving a state of ritual purity (wudu). This dua can be seen as a transition, asking Allah to help us maintain our spiritual purity and to protect us from anything that might negate it. 3. **Mindfulness:** It cultivates a constant awareness of Allah's presence in all aspects of our lives, no matter how private or ordinary.
Source & Authentication
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'When any one of you intends to enter the privy, he should say: Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 142, Sahih Muslim 375) *Context:* The word 'khubuth' refers to devils (male) and 'khaba'ith' refers to she-devils (female). The Prophet ﷺ taught us to seek refuge in Allah from all types of evil, seen and unseen, even when performing a private act like entering the toilet.
